The Basic Vexel Set features a 3x3 grid of modular units that seamlessly connect to create a complete display. You can easily expand or reduce the grid (e.g., 5x4 or 2x2) by printing additional center Vexels and edge pieces. Each Vexel has a 0.1mm tolerance at its connectors for smooth assembly while maintaining strength.
For added creativity, experiment with different top-fill patterns during printing. Some of my favorites are Hilbert Curves and Monotonic Lines, but any pattern is possible.
A Vexel frame measures 24 x 20 x 3.5 cm, with the inner compartment, designed to hold the specimen, measuring 22 x 18 x 2.7 cm.
Material choice and colors are flexible—PLA works well, but feel free to explore more exotic materials. If you’re printing with a nozzle size larger than 0.4mm, I recommend testing connection tolerances to ensure the best fit.
Each Vexel includes small holes at the back side for an M3x8 screw and nut, in order to stregthen the whole structure. Corner Vexels feature 4mm holes for wall mounting or installing hooks and rope, allowing the display to be hung if needed.
At the center of each Vexel is a 3mm hole for securing its “contents” (you can use glue instead, but I personally prefer screws).
