Juniso is located in Kamakura City, considered the capital of Zen in Japan. There remains the primitive beauty of nature: various type of insects, trees, flowers and plants, squirrels, tanuki, wild cats, birds… People coexist there with numerous life forms. Early in the morning, the fog emanating from the mountains immerses them into a world of ether. The cover picture for this CD was taken during one of those early mornings. The recording was made in a small hut, which stands among bamboo trees.
This album is different from what Orimo have done in the past. His sounds depict this ideal paradise, like an ink drawing of Juniso. With the exception of 3 Valleys which is based on a koten or classical tune, the pieces featured in this album were all improvised and recorded in one take. The 2nd one, Requiem – Peace From Tohoku, was named after the Great East Japan Earthquake that struck on 11 March 2011.
